WAR ROOM — Empty-handed

They were downstairs, at the café, just before heading up to the board meeting, the COO and the CFO, empty-handed, grabbing something to drink because they already knew they would have nothing to put on the table.
They brought up two or three ideas, brilliant and innovative ones they would have liked to put forward, just to let them exist for a few seconds, exciting, fundable projects that could have been launched now, easily, while everything was going well.
Then one of them said with a smile, without lowering or raising his voice:
— We know it won’t lead anywhere. When everything is going well, he no longer listens.

The other nodded, smiling as well.
Despite everything they had in mind, they chose to bring nothing.
They took their coffee and headed toward the elevator. The conversation shifted to weekend plans. They went up.
The board meeting started. The numbers were good. The boss spoke for a long time. He was pleased.
Nothing was moved.

The next meeting started on time.
